Emotions/Feelings

Over the past few weeks the UK has experienced a lot of ups and downs from schools being shut and playgrounds banned; to the government making daily statements on how we will come out of this phase of ab-normalcy. Many are distraught and angry whilst others are sad and annoyed. But why?

First of all we need understand what triggers these emotions. Emotions are usually triggered from past experiences or from a bad or good day at work. Irritation, sadness and anger are representing your unhappiness with all the things you are attached with, it may be your family, colleagues, friends, situation, environment. These experiences all have their relative hormones that trigger our brain to signal out to the sympathetic innervation and secretion glands of our bodies. So should we really be trying to be containing our emotions?

The answer is maybe. People often go about with the saying’ You have a great EQ’; But what does that really mean. In my opinion an EQ( Emotional Quotient) is recognising different emotions of yours and those of others and to discern between different feelings and label them appropriately. A high EQ helps individuals to communicate better, reduce their anxiety and stress, defuse conflicts, improve relationships, empathise with others, and effectively overcome life’s challenges. Our emotional intelligence affects the quality of our lives because it influences our behaviour and relationships.

So I really do think that having a good EQ will help us to make the people around have better well being because it would help them to be more understood. That feeling when you think from their perspective and tell them truthful things about how they are feeling and what you can do to help them really is a rewarding moment.

  4. Viren, your topic once again is mind blowing. No aspect of our mental life is more important to the quality and meaning of our existence than our emotions, they are what makes life worth living. So we all must work on having a high EQ. And so rightly commented by mom, your last line was amazing. Well done my boy. Continue writing and good luck.
