Phobia’s

This week has certainly been a tiring one and a relief at the same for the UK are now having to cope with returning of some years back to school and for me, I am relieved for my exams are finally over. The weather has also played a part on us with England continuing its gloomy and erratic weather from a month of pure sunshine to a week of just rain. I have also started to begin thinking what it would be like to wake up at 6:30 every week day and go to school and coming back tired at 5 in the evening and the UK becoming even busier than it was. The pace of life is just so relaxed and slow and there is a part of me that likes it and a part of me that is now just fed up. No cricket practise, no tennis on Saturdays with my club, no social interaction (and for those who know me, I love to have a good chat 🤣). There has been a great spark across the country on phobia’s such as agoraphobia.

So I was having a chat with my dad yesterday in the car and he asked me a simple yet hard question ,”Would you want to go back to the ‘normal'”. And to that I was baffled and I asked him why I was. He replied saying that due to lockdown a lot of us are getting agoraphobia. Agoraphobia is used as a term to describe if is not feeling comfortable in their environment and surroundings so for example one is feeling alone and sad because there is no-one to interact with and in some serious cases it can be that these people do not leave there houses for days because they are not sure of what to expect in the outside world.

Let’s say for example that tomorrow lock down opens. Do you think that everyone is going to go and and meet their friends or they will stay at home and wait to see what happens? Of course there will be a certain amount of people who now forget that this disease is fatal yet have now experienced what it is like outside. But on the other hand people might be scared to take a tube or even go there local restaurant because they are unsure. Some people with serious agoraphobia often realise their fear is irrational, but they’re unable to do anything about it and I do not believe in this method of thinking.

Of course you will always have a choice but staying at home solitary like an oyster will not do an good for your well being. Take the necessary precaution to stay safe but know that the government are always making the right decisions for you. For those who don’t know a phobia is an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal and can always be reversed no matter how scary or restricting it is. Of course agoraphobia is a very serious type of phobia but I like to think about it like a restricting and reversible phobia. Take your mind away from the life you are leading weather it good or bad and think for a moment am I making the right decisions and what can I do to make this better for me?

  1. Excellent topic and your input. Actually I learned this new word from you and how to deal with it.

Enjoyed reading it in Hindi as well as used the translation feature!
